Standing at the gates of Iveagh Gardens in the heart of Dublin City Centre I quickly realised that the park was closed for the day. Our last point of contact with Derek was 5 minutes ago and the next one would be in person. I've never seen Derek and Erica before and I had no way of contacting him anymore until they arrive at the agreed point of proposal. I think I gained a few grey hairs on my head while I waited.

I quickly recognised them walking up the alley. When Derek saw that the gates were closed, he momentarily joins me panicking. For a split moment Erica's back is to me and I take this opportunity to mouth 'just do it in the alley' but he obviously thought I said 'let's go to St Stephen's Green'. I followed them like a stalker nervously flicking through my camera settings. When Derek was happy with the spot at the edge of a lake, I hid behind the tree to document one of the most beautiful moments of my life. You can see what I'm talking about below.

Derek and Erica are the first ones who gave me this gift to witness an engagement proposal. All the way from Alabama with a tour around Ireland, Derek gave the best gift to Erica he could possibly think of, he asked her to spend the rest of their lives together. Now Ireland will be forever associated with these beautiful and romantic memories.
