Welcome to the first week of Irish Wedding Vendor Series. For the month of April and May I am going to interview one vendor from the wedding industry that I am really fond of. I am going to ask them questions that will give insight into their professional work.
First up Lorraine, the owner and creative director of Elk Wedding & Event Stylist. Lorraine styles beautiful weddings and has recently been featured on TV3. Some of the pieces she makes are 100% authentic. Determined, organised and funny, Lorraine has an incredible sense of style and a vision of how a place should look like!
Why did you decide to become a Wedding Stylist?
I'm a photographer who styles chocolate for shoots by day and a wedding stylist at night. I started styling weddings when I was getting married myself. I wanted my wedding to be stunningly beautiful, completely original and filled with features that represent me and my husband. When I couldn't find anyone to help me do this, I decided to do it myself - and loved it so much that once I was finished, I knew I wanted to do it again and again. I've been styling weddings since 2015 and absolutely adore every minute of it - I love how each and every different couple is so unique, and how I help them in making their day so special and bespoke to them.
What inspires you the most about your work?
What I do is basically bring Pinterest to life! I take an entirely bespoke approach to each wedding I work on, and my inspiration comes from a mix of factors - studying the venue and seeing how to make the most of it creatively, the time of year the wedding is on, whether there's a theme, and of course, the bride and groom themselves and their own innate style.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years I aim to be regarded as among Ireland's most sought out wedding professionals. I'm also excited to be in the early stages of planning a festival and corporate event styling service at the moment, to sit alongside weddings.
